Organizations that run writing workshops for veterans

They offer workshops in both in-person and online formats. Some require registration; others are drop-in. They also host performances, open mic nights, and publish compilations of veteran writing.

Veterans Writing Workshop

They run longer session workshops where you meet on a designated night every week for eight weeks, write to prompts, and receive feedback from the group. There are in-person groups in Westchester, NY, and there are online groups. The site features videos of veterans reading their work. They also compile and publish the writings of veterans.

The Veterans Writing Project

The project selects participants based on a writing submission. The participants attend a week-long workshop and are then paired with established writers for a year of writing and mentoring. Their goal is to foster emerging writers from military backgrounds.
